Van Go, Inc. is an award-winning, arts-based social service agency for qualifying Douglas County youth, ages 14-24. Using art as the vehicle for self-expression, self-confidence, and hope for the future, Van Go empowers young people to create their own vision of success.  Employed as Van Go Apprentice Artists, youth receive comprehensive employability skills training, health and wellness education, and social service support.

Although we cannot “Raise a Paddle” in person this year, we still need your support.

Each year Van Go spends $40,000 on art supplies alone. It’s not a small number, and it’s not without intention. Those highly visible murals and hundreds of benches didn’t make themselves! Here’s why these art supplies matter so much:

+ Providing our youth with access to a comprehensive toolbox of art materials allows them the freedom to explore a variety of media and materials in order to better facilitate their self-expression. Whether it’s pen to paper, a digital application, or brushes and paint, each Apprentice Artist has the exposure to a variety of media as they share their unique vision within this community.

+ Learning to use art materials also builds self-confidence. When youth are provided a framework for success and the materials needed to do their job effectively, their self-esteem blossoms. This can be seen routinely in the faces of our Apprentice Artists at any Benchmark unveiling, public mural dedication, or Adornment sale.

+ Quality also matters. Not everyone has the luxury of using professional grade materials and tools in their workplace. Using high quality art supplies not only allows for better safety, efficiency, and consistency in Van Go’s work, but it also sends a message to our Apprentice Artists that their work is worthy of investing in quality materials.

The use of professional grade materials demonstrates a commitment to doing serious work that will also withstand years of use and enjoyment. This echoes the same investment Van Go has in the youth we serve. The materials they use now will allow their creative efforts to be preserved in the community for years to come.

Your investment in quality art supplies will help us ensure that our young artists are given the best tools to express themselves, build self-confidence, generate lasting artwork, and create visions of success.
